Peapods
The Peapods have been busy, busy, busy! We now have more Peapods pulling themselves up and standing while holding on. It won’t be long before everyone is up on their feet! Some of us love to dance while standing up. They can really make some moves. Our favorite song is “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” Quite a few of us are clapping, stomping our feet, and raising our arms for hurray! It’s lots of fun. We are having so much fun chasing one another. We’re going all around the room laughing and trying to catch our friends. One of the books read to us was Chester’s Way by Kevin Henkes.
Peapods II
Peapods 2 is having a great summer so far! We’ve been enjoying water play and spending time outside. We can’t believe how fast the summer is going by but we’re making sure to enjoy every moment! Over the last two weeks we celebrated two first birthdays! While some of us are learning new words others are practicing taking their first steps. We have been practicing each other’s names, using our words to express what we want or need, and using words in place of our signs. We are so proud of everyone and love being apart of these milestones. We can’t wait to see what the next two weeks will bring!
Seedlings
The Seedlings can’t believe how fast the summer is flying by, but we’ve been enjoying the beautiful weather while we can!
We’ve absolutely loved our water play days and spending time on the playground. The sandbox is always a hit. We have a blast building sandcastles or simply digging holes. Nothing gets us more excited than spotting a truck driving by. They’re our favorite right now!
While in our room, we’ve been having a great time exploring. Our sensory table is filled with sand, and we’ve added water, sand toys, and some fun seashells. The shells are especially great for scooping sand or water, and the kids love using them in creative ways.
We’ve also been jumping on bubble wrap and making LOUD pops. It’s so exciting that we want to do it over and over again! For art, we’ve been making colorful dot-art beach balls using paper plates, and everyone is so proud of their creations.
During circle time, we read Wendell the Narwhal by Emily Dove and sang and acted out “Baby Shark.” Our favorite part is definitely the “run away” part.
We want to wish Ms. Hailey all the very best with her move. The children (and all of us) will truly miss her kindness, energy, and the joy she brought to each day!
Little Sprouts
The past two weeks have been filled with lots of fun and learning! We dove into two exciting themes seashells and camping and the classroom was buzzing with laughter and lots of hands-on adventures. Each morning, we kicked off the day with our cheerful Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted together as a class! We made a splash during water play, got creative with watercolor seashells and cozy handprint campfires, and had a blast during center time building with blocks, playing with trains and play dough, and digging through a sandy sensory bin filled with real seashells! Storytime took us on even more adventures as we read The Berenstain Bears’ Seashore Treasure by Jan and Stan Berenstain and Llama Llama Loves Camping by Anna Dewdney. We can’t wait for more fun ahead. Have a wonderful weekend!
Beanstalks
What a splash we’ve made in the last two weeks here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed crabs and shells. We had a blast coloring our own “shells” for our crabs to live in. We really enjoyed reading A House For A Hermit Crab by Eric Carle. This week we are learning about sharks! We loved talking about and looking at pictures of all the different kinds of sharks that live in the ocean. Our favorite book this week was Five Little Sharks Swimming in the Sea by Steve Metzger. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
Saplings
The Saplings have enjoyed talking about the beach and ocean life during the last 2 weeks. We have learned about who lives in the ocean and we talked about our favorite things to do at the beach.
We fingerpainted an ocean and added fish and we practiced counting with crabs. Our favorite books included The Pout Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen and A Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae.
Next it will be Shark Week in the Saplings class.
Pre-K 3
Pre-K 3 has been busy these last few weeks learning about shells and ocean life.
We learned that many different animals live in shells. We created a beautiful art piece by gluing tissue paper to a picture of a sea shell. The children then added some sand and stamped other ocean animals in the paper. The kids matched shell shapes, build a house of blocks for their hermit crab and reviewed numbers by clipping the correct amount of legs on our crabs.
During ocean life week, the children created jellyfish. They reviewed letters that were written on starfishes and sorted ocean animals by size. Pre-K 3 looked behind the turtle’s shell piece to review letters and used bubble wrap to paint a cool looking seahorses.
Some of our favorite books were What Has A Shell? by Mary Elizabeth Salzmann, A House For Hermit Crab by Eric Carle, Commotion In The Ocean by Giles Andreae and Froggy Goes To Hawaii by Jonathan London.
Pre-K 4
The past two weeks Pre-K 4 has been learning about oceans and beaches. We learned about types of seashells and all the fun things you can do at the beach. We read several books including Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae and Turkey’s Sandtastic Beach Day by Wendi Silvano.
In our journals, we wrote about what we can see at the beach and our favorite sea creatures. The children worked on counting with ten frames & matching shapes. We have also been working on tracing uppercase letters.
Next week, we will be learning about Pirates & Mermaids.
Summer Camp
The past two weeks at camp have been packed with adventure, learning, and tons of fun! We took a walk to the firehouse. While there were no firefighters there at the time we walked over, we still had fun looking into the windows at the fire trucks! The field had lots of fun with laughter, games, and running. A few favorite activities are soccer, obstacle courses, jump ropes, and duck duck goose. We also had a snack picnic at the field one day and can’t wait to have a picnic there again! We can’t wait to see what other types of games we can play on the field with our friends. We have been building skills during swim lessons and making a splash in open swim. Everyone is becoming more confident in the water! Our afternoons in the courtyard playground has been fun too. Miss Diane showed us how to play musical hoops! Our field trip last week to Reeves-Reed Arboretum was a nature-filled day of beautiful plants, walking trails, and even a bald eagles nest! Our field trip this week to Yestercades was a huge hit. The kids were able to play classic arcade games to pinball machines. Everyone had the BEST time. It’s been a fun-filled couple of weeks and we can’t wait to see what the next couple of weeks will bring!
