Peapods

It’s been busy in the Peapod room these past couple of weeks. We were lucky to be able to get outside before the very hot weather came along. We’re looking forward to cooler days for our walks. We have been using our fine motor skills by stacking our smaller blocks, playing with our push pop fidgets, and our stacking cups. We also brought out our tunnel. Some of us were interested in crawling into it but most just wanted to watch and wait for another time to try it. Music is an important part of our days. We have been enjoying many songs being sung to us but we have really been enjoying “Five Little Ducks”. One of the many books read to us was And Then Comes Summer by Jamie Kim.

Peapods II

And just like that we are getting ready to enter July! We can’t believe how quickly time is going by. Peapods 2 has been enjoying the summer days and have been trying to take advantage of our outside times. Our personalities have been shining through and we are loving seeing everyone grow and develop in their own ways. We have started calling some of our friends by their names to get their attention. We have been practicing using our words to express what we are looking or would like. Over the last two weeks, we celebrated two birthdays! We are looking forward to more summer days and are anxiously awaiting to start water play!

Seedlings

The Seedlings have been making the most of the heat wave! Our sensory table is open most of the time, and we love scrubbing down the cars and trucks at our car wash. The sponges are our favorite because they make the most bubbles! Sometimes we get carried away and start washing our arms too.

We really enjoyed our Transportation and Construction themes. One of the highlights was watching real construction vehicles right outside our window! We painted a yellow submarine, made a hot air balloon, colored a dump truck, and glued different materials to create a beautiful rainbow.

During circle time, we sang “Yellow Submarine,” danced to “Freeze Dance,” and read Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld.

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been filled with lots of fun and learning! We dove into two exciting themes, construction and transportation. Each morning, we started our day with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted together as a class. We read some fantastic books, including Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker and I Love Trains by Philemon Sturges. During art, we sponge-painted trains, built creative structures with Legos, and used tissue paper to decorate colorful dump trucks. We also had a blast experimenting with paint, learning how mixing different colors can create brand-new ones! We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Beanstalks

What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed buildings. We worked on our fine motor skills and painted our city skylines. We really enjoyed reading Building A Home by Byron Barton. This week we learned about tools and construction vehicles. We loved talking about all the different tools used in building things. We had a blast using playdoh, straws, and popsicle sticks like tools in our very own mini construction sites. Our favorite book this week was Old MacDonald Had A Workshop by Lisa Shulman. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

Over the last two weeks, we have loved learning about transportation and farmers market. Last week we learned about transportation. We discussed different types of transportation, where we would go and sorted transportation vehicles. Throughout the week we painted with cars and used a dice to roll and count race cars. Our favorite book from the week was Pete that Cat and the Wheels on the Bus by James Dean. This week we are learning about the farmers market. We have discussed different food you can buy at the farmers market and our favorite foods. Throughout the week we have laced different color jelly jars, painted our own pies, and found picnic letters. Our favorite book from this week was Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Mara Alpern. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!

Pre-K 3

These past weeks were the last two weeks in Pre K 3. Congratulations friends, you are moving up into Pre K 4!

Our topics were Farmer’s Market and Transportation.

The Pre K 3 children planted some paper carrots and had to match the number of leaves that was on each carrot. We learned about different vegetables and fruits that are grown on farms and sold at the Farmers Market. Afterwards, we sorted vegetables from fruits. The children had to match the two halves of the eggs together and hide a “baby” letter inside the eggs and we sorted food into the different colors of a rainbow.

In transportation week, the children sorted vehicles in to columns of land, air, and sea. The they matched numbers cars to the correct gas pump, build cars from Legos then raced them, and painted with trains.

Pre-K 4

We wrapped our year in Pre K 4 talking about Space and Oceans. We enjoyed books such as Sadie Sprocket Builds A Rocket by Sue Fliess and Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz.

The children  learned important skills in the areas of literacy and mathematics that have prepared them for Kindergarten, as well as social skills, like problem solving and sharing.

We wish the children all the best as they continue to learn and grow! Thank you for a wonderful year!

~ The Pre K 4 Team

Some of our favorite books were Max Goes To The Farmer’s Market by Adria Klein, We’re Going To The Farmer’s Market by Carmen Parks, Whose Vehicle Is This? By Sharon Kate Cooper and I’m Fast by Kate and Jim McMullan.
