Peapods
The Peapods have been having an amazing time these past couple of weeks. We have enjoyed going outside for walks and enjoying the beautiful weather.
We now have a few active crawlers, a couple of creepers, and, a roller! Regardless of how we move we are getting all around the room. We are now able to find many interesting places and things we never knew were there!
We were busy making decorations for Memorial Day that are now on display in the lobby. We hope you like them.
One of the books read to us was One, Two, Buckle My Shoe by Jane Cacera and we sang “5 Green and Speckled Frogs.”
Peapods II
We hope everyone had a wonderful long Memorial Day weekend! Peapods 2 is officially in summer mode and over the last two weeks we’ve been talking about the ocean! We read a new book called Hello World! Ocean Life by Jill McDonald. We learned about all the different animals that live in the ocean such as sharks, whales, sea turtles and starfish. We made our own starfish using construction paper and dot paint which you can see hanging outside of our classroom. We’ve been enjoying our time outside by playing with balls and crawling through the tunnel. We love playing peek-a-boo in the tunnel windows and surprising our friends and teachers. We are looking forward to the warms days of summer and are ready to see what June will have in store for us!
Seedlings
The Seedlings have been having such a great time! We’ve had so much fun learning about the ocean, the animals that live in it, and exploring the world of insects.
We pretended to swim like fish and chomp like Baby Shark. The children had a blast making their own jellyfish and were thrilled about the tentacles dangling from them! We also created handprint crabs, which we think are really cool—they even like to “pinch” like real crabs!
While learning about insects, we were excited to find a few different types in the playground, like ants, green caterpillars, and tiny green flies. The children had fun making red ladybugs and can’t wait to use them to decorate our room.
During circle time, we sang “I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee,” which has become a class favorite—they want to sing it all the time! We also read This Hat Is Not Mine by Jon Klassen.
Finally, we want to send a big and happy congratulations to Ms. Paige on her wedding day! We’re sure she’ll have all the right dance moves—after all, she’s had plenty of practice dancing with the kids!
Little Sprouts
The past two weeks have been full of fun, learning, and laughter! We explored two exciting themes: Ocean Life and Insects! Each morning, we started our day with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted our numbers together. We read some wonderful books, including Goodnight Jersey Shore by Adam Gamble and Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth. For art, we created tissue paper seahorses, handprint jellyfish, and finger-painted bugs. We also had a blast “fishing” for the fish and sharks that live in the ocean! One of the highlights was “digging” for bugs, everyone thought the spiders and beetles were especially cool! We hope everyone enjoys a relaxing and fun weekend!
Beanstalks
What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed space. We were so excited to use dot markers to make our own planets. We really enjoyed reading I Want to Be An Astronaut by Richard Merritt and singing “Rocketship Run” by Laurie Berkner.
This week we are learning about the zoo. We loved pretending to be all kinds of different animals you might see there. We worked on our fine motor skills by feeding the lions and the monkeys with our tweezers. Our favorite book this week was If I Ran The Zoo by Dr. Seuss. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
Saplings
We have loved learning about farm and space in the last two weeks! Last week we learned all about farm. We discussed the animals that live on a farm, the parts of a chicken, and the lifecycle of a chicken. Throughout the week we found letters in our name, painted with farm animals, and made our own farm maps. Our favorite books were Who Took The Farmer’s Hat by Joan L. Nodset and Crash, Bang, Thud by Dawn Apperly.
This week we are learning about space. We have discussed the planets, constellations, and our solar system. We also marble painted planets, made space patterns, and spelled our names in rocket ships. Our favorite books from the week were There is No Place Like Space by Tish Rabe and Interstellar Cinderella by Deborah Underwood. We are looking forward to learning about community helpers construction in the next two weeks!
Pre-K 3
Pre K 3 has been learning about animals the past two weeks. The first week, we discussed Ocean Life. We created jellyfish crafts, reviewed letters with starfish and sorted sea turtles and crabs by size. The children reviewed numbers by counting shovels and matching the correct number to the sand castle and we also feed the shark letter fish.
Week two, we learned about Insects. We discussed the three parts of an insect. Pre K 3
practiced cutting and counting. We make a caterpillar with the letters of our whole name. Wow, they were long caterpillars! The children created a beautiful butterfly by painting one wing, folding the paper in half. We then discussed symmetry.
The children also had a lot of fun on our field trips as well as Stretch and Grow, Music, Ballet and Yoga.
Some of our favorite books were There Was An Old Mermaid Who Swallowed A Shark by Lucille Colandru, Ocean Adventure by Tony Mitten, Where’s That Insect? by Barbara Brenner and Bennice Chardiet and Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! By Bob Banner.
Pre-K 4
In Pre K 4 a week was spent talking about camping. The children learned what to bring on a camping trip and what activities can be done. We also talked about different types of rocks. The following week m, we talked about picnics, food and a balanced diet. The children enjoyed books such as Camping Spree With Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen and The Bear That Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach.
The children continued working on letter and beginning sound recognition, syllables and rhyming words. We practiced writing letters w, x, y and z in upper and lowercase form. As well as counting and number recognition.
We had a lot of fun painting and gluing paper together to make a campfire, while practicing our scissors skills too.
Next week the children can look forward to a fun filled week with a field trip and graduation!
