The Snowy Day

February News: Week of February 14 & 21

Peapods

Peapods I

This week in the Peapod room we made many new discoveries. Some of us have learned how to turn on our Sloth. We love to play with it and we are so proud of ourselves! We also had a great time popping Ms. Lu’s bubbles. Some of us were pretty excited trying to grab them. Ms. Lu read one of our favorite books Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andrea and Guy Parker-Rees. Ms. Laura and Ms.Melissa sang songs to us we particularly enjoyed “The Ants Go Marching.”

Peapods II

It is a short week this week and next week! We started off our week with a lot of love and dot colored a big picture of a heart. We had a lot of fun with our shape box again. We always get so excited and either scream or do a little dance when our teachers bring out this special box. We chanted for bubbles until our teachers brought out the bubble machine! It is always a great feeling when the bubbles pop in our hands. We also created some “love bears” with some paint and a bear stamp.

On Monday, February 21st it’s President’s Day! So that means, no school! Have a beautiful long weekend and see you on Tuesday!

Seedlings

We started the week off with our Valentine’s Day party! It was such a great way to kick off our short week!  The children loved all the delicious snacks at our party and thank you to all the parents who helped to bring it together.

With the weather warming up, we were able to enjoy our playground.  We love being able to go outside for extended periods of time. We have a great time exploring outside and looking at all the big trucks that drive by. We really love trucks.

The Seedlings were thrilled to color on the giant piece of paper that was taped to our floor. It was so much fun being allowed to do that. Afterwards, we put stickers on the paper too!

During circle time,  we read Porcupine Valentine by Aaron Zenz and we sang “5 Little onkeys Jumping on the Bed”.

Little Sprouts

We started this week in Little Sprouts celebrating Valentine’s Day with a party! We had so much fun spreading all the love with our friends and having lots of yummy treats! We also practiced our building skills with Legos, even raced Lego cars! We relaxed and read some new books that were added to our library such as Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault. Some of us enjoyed challenging ourselves with some new puzzles, and we did a great job!

Beanstalks

This week in beanstalks we talked about the letter S and s sound. We also named a couple of things that start with the letter S. We also had a scavenger hunt in the classroom to look for items that were colors such as red, pink, yellow, purple and blue. We loved that! We learned about dentist and how to take care of our teeth! What foods we should eat to keep them healthy and what food makes them get germs like candy! We practiced our fine motor skills by pretending to floss teeth using Lego and play dough it was fun but a little tough! We got to use our sensory bin and find letters in it and name some things that begin with the letter we found . We sang “ Circle Time Song” and “ This Is The Way We Brush Our Teeth” . We also read  “Peppa goes to the Dentist” and “My Toothbrush is Missing” we loved these two books!

Beanstalks II

Happy Valentine’s Day! Beanstalks II had a wonderful party. The boys look so handsome in their red!

This week our class discussed snow and ice.  We practiced using scissors and cut out a snowflake to decorate our room. We painted with colored  ice cubes and made beautiful pictures. We also practiced counting while putting buttons on our snowmen.

Beanstalks II read Clifford’s First Valentine’s Day by Norman Bridwell, The Missing Mitten Mystery by Steven Kellogg, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, Snow Bear by Miriam Moss. Our favorite still is Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon.

Saplings

This week, Saplings learned all about the snow and ice! We learned that there are different kinds of snowflakes and how snow is made. We looked at pictures of snowflakes through magnifying glasses and with our teachers help we compared and contrasted them. We used our fine motor skills to build our own snowflakes and to rescue animals that were frozen in ice! We used pipettes and other tools to break the ice. We had fun creating this week as we uncovered hidden snowflakes while watercolor painting and used puffy paint to make our own interpretation of a snowman. Our sensory table was filled with fake snow and ice cubes and blocks. Our favorite books this week were Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner, Snow! Snow! Snow! by Lee Harper,Snow and Uri Shulevitz, and more. Next week, we will learn all about Read Across America week!

Pre K 3

Let it snow! Let it snow! This week, the PreK-3 class learned about snow! We learned how snow is formed and how it melts. Also the kids learned that all snowflakes are different. We had fun painting snow and watching it melt as we painted. We also learned the life cycle of a snowflake. We used water colors to see snowflakes appear! In our sensory bin we added snowballs and had to use our fine motor skills to get them out. Our story we read this week was The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. After reading our book we made our own track with puff paint! It was a busy week for the PreK-3! Next week we will be focusing on Ice! Have a great weekend!

Pre K 4

We hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day. The children in PreK 4 did by celebrating with a party and passing out Valentines. This week we learned so much! We continued our study on the Olympics and learned a little bit about Presidents Day.

The class enjoyed watching a video about Mae Jemison and how she was able to become an astronaut. Following the video the children were able to use shapes to create their own rocket ship.

The letters of the week were lowercase letters e and i. Everyone worked very hard to create a word web for these letters. Then each individual was able to practice making these letters on their own by writing each letter the proper way and by doing roll-a-doh.

A few questions that were answered for question of the day included, How many Olympic sports are there? Have you watched any of the Olympics? and What does the President of the USA do?
