Peapods

The Peapods are on the move! We have a new crawler and one just beginning to walk. It’s so exciting watching them move.
We are doing so well with our signing. Besides using “all done and more” we’re signing “thank you” and working on “please”.
We are having a lot of fun with our “surprise box”, it’s always fun to find out what’s hidden inside.
A couple of books we read and enjoyed were Is It Passover Yet? by Chris Barash and Happy Easter Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond.
Hoping our families have had a Joyful Passover and have a Happy Easter.

Peapods II

Peapods 2 had another great two weeks! We learned all about pets and the farm. We asked families to send in photos of everyone’s pets at home and we have been enjoying looking at all of them! We were surprised when we saw more friends had cats than dogs! We were also introduced to two new books; Pete the Kitty and Baby Animals by James Dean and The Busy Little Tractor by Joe Rhatigan. We did a few art projects which you can see hanging up both outside of the classroom and inside. We practiced using paint brushes to make chicks and we used dot paint to decorate flowers. We had to say goodbye for now to a friend who moved up to the Seedlings classroom. We will miss him but we are so excited for his next Sproutlings adventure! We are looking forward to what we will learn next!

Seedlings

The Seedlings had a wonderful time during our Pet and Farm-themed weeks. Thank you to all the parents who sent in photos of your pets—the children really enjoyed looking at them. They were especially excited to learn the names of each other’s pets, and our new display has quickly become a favorite spot in the classroom.

We explored different art activities, including using dot markers to color kittens and gluing feathers onto birds. With Ms. Paige, the children painted plates and added googly eyes and beaks to create hatching chicks. They’ve enjoyed admiring their work and practicing saying “cheep cheep” just like the chicks.

We also listened to a variety of farm animal sounds. The children had fun trying to identify the animals and sometimes acted them out, which led to lots of laughter and learning.

During circle time, we read DOGS by Emily Gravett and sang the familiar favorite, “B-I-N-G-O”.

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been full of fun, learning, and laughter! We explored two exciting themes Pets and Farms. Each morning, we started our day with our good morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted our numbers together. It’s been wonderful to watch their confidence grow during circle time! We read some great books including Busy Pets by Campbell Books and Pete the Cat: Old MacDonald Had a Farm by James Dean. We got creative with muddy pig paintings and adorable handprint chicks. The children especially loved sharing about their own pets. We also had fun using dot markers to decorate paper bags for our egg hunt! We hope everyone enjoys the nice long weekend!

Beanstalks

What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed Farms! We were so excited to work on our letter recognition by spelling our name with eggs. We really enjoyed reading Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin and singing “Old MacDonald Had A Farm”. This week we are learning about pets. We loved getting to talk about all the different animals we have at home. We also decorated our bags for the Egg Hunt we’re having at school. Our favorite book this week was What Will Fat Cat Sit On? by Jan Thomas. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

We have loved learning all about birds throughout the past 2 weeks! We have discussed types of birds, their life cycle, the parts of a bird, and investigated real bird nests! Throughout the weeks we have matched bird shapes, made our names in bird nests, and completed a bird directed drawing. Our favorite books from the week were Duck on a Bike by David Shannon, Daisy and the Egg by Jane Simmons and There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick by Lucille Colandro. During our activities we worked on our letter and number recognition, pencil grip, and developing our fine motor muscles. We are looking forward to learning about earth day and insects in the next two weeks!

PreK 3

PreK 3 finished up learning about pond animals and plant life last week. Each class painted or used a collage technique to create a classroom pond! Each child then created assorted animals and plants to fill each of the ponds. All of the children used their fine motor skills to create bug fossils by pressing small toy insects into flattened clay, created beautiful turtles by decorating small paper plates as shells, worked on size sequencing with pond bugs, and reviewed numbers with a pond hop by counting frogs and lily pads!

Some of the books we enjoyed last week were – This Way, Ruby, by Jonathan Emmett and Rebecca Harry,  Caterpillar Spring, Butterfly Summer, by Claudine Gevry and Susan Hood, and Wide Mouthed Frog, by Keith Faulkner.

This week we have been talking about Spring, plants, and growing flowers. The children in both classes had the opportunity to plant a few different types of seeds. First, everyone worked on a “beans in a bag” project by placing two beans on a damp paper towel, placing it in a Ziploc bag, then taping it to a window in class. We will all observe the bags to see how long it takes for the beans to sprout!  Everyone then got their hands dirty while planting flower seeds in small containers. We can’t wait for the flowers to start growing! Fine motor skills were employed by  the children while they created artistic flowers using recyclable materials.

A few of our favorite books this week have been And Then It’s Spring, by Julie Fugliano, In like a Lion, Out like a Lamb, by Marion Dane Bauer, and The Tiny Seed, by Eric Carle.

We always enjoy Stretch and Grow, Music with Miss Lisa, and our field trips to local parks!

PreK 4

Over the past two weeks, the children in PreK 4 were very busy learning about Insects and plants. They enjoyed books such as Dandy by Ame Dykman and The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.

The children made drawings of insects and created a ladybug math craft by adding spots to each wing and then counting the combined number of spots for a total. They counted bees in ten frames and matched the corresponding number to each frame.

Some of our literacy activities included naming insects and counting the syllables they heard in each name, as well as an ant farm letter search. The children were introduced to a new concept, Compound Words. Together we spent time thinking of compound words and then later the children had an opportunity to try on their own by looking at picture and then finding the two smaller word pictures to match.

Next week we will be talking about how to take care of the planet and ways to recycle.
