Peapods

We have been so lucky with the weather lately and the Peapods are loving it! They love to get outside and look at their surroundings and also go into the playground with the “older” babies.
We are enjoying playing with our toys. Some of us are getting old enough to discover how some of the toys work. It’s very exciting watching this happen. We continue to practice our signing and we’re doing very well.

The Peapods are sad to say goodbye to two of our friends. They are moving up to Peapods 2. We are going to miss having them in our class but we  know they are going to have a great time discovering all new things with their new friends. One of the books we read was It’s Earth Day! by Mercer Mayer.

Peapods II

Happy May! Peapods 2 has been taking advantage of these springs day and spending lots of time outside! We love crawling through the tunnels, riding on the rockets, and watching the birds fly by. Over the last two weeks we have talked about Earth Day and butterflies. We listened to a new song called “I Saw A Butterfly” by The Laurie Berkner Band and we had so much fun dancing and moving with our friends!

It’s been a big week for our Peapods 2 group! We had to say goodbye for now to two friends who started in the Seedlings class. We are going to miss them very much but we know they are going to do amazing! We want to welcome two new friends along with their families into our class! We are so excited to have them! We are looking forward to what May will have in store for us, we think it’s going to be great!

Seedlings

The Seedlings had a fantastic time learning about Earth Day and recycling! We loved creating different versions of the Earth using a variety of materials, and we now know the Earth’s colors-green and blue! We had so much fun pointing them out.

Our favorite part was picking up all kinds of recyclable materials and placing them in the blue bin with the white triangle symbol. There was so much newspaper, along with cans, plastic bottles, and some cardboard. We also practiced taking turns putting the items into the bin.

We’d like to give a warm welcome to three new friends who are joining our room! We’re so excited to have you join our room and can’t wait to have fun together.

During circle time, we read The Pigeon has to go to School by Mo Willems and sang “Animal Boogie”. We loved acting out all the different moves the animals do! Have a great weekend!

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been full of fun, learning, and laughter! We explored two exciting themes — Earth Day and flowers/plants. Each morning, we started our day with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted our numbers together.

We read some great books including I Love Earth by Little Hippo Books and Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. We learned simple and sweet ways to take care of our planet. For art, we made handprint Earths and handprint flowers. The kids had a great time using their hands to create something special. We also welcomed two new friends to our class! We are so happy to have them join our Little Sprouts family! We hope you all have a great weekend!

Beanstalks

What a wonderful two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed Earth Day and all the ways we can keep our planet healthy. We loved getting to squish around the paint to make our own little world. We really enjoyed reading The Earth Book by Todd Parr. This week we are learning about plants and flowers. We loved looking at all the different plants we might see in our neighborhood. Our favorite book this week was Flowers Are Calling by Rita Grey. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

We loved learning about Earth Day and insects over the past 2 weeks! Last week, we discussed Earth Day. We sorted letters in our name, measured plants, and decorated an Earth on butcher paper. Our favorite books from the week were Michael Recycle by Ellie Bethel and How to Catch a Garden Fairy by Adam Wallace.

This week we are learning about insects. We have discussed where insects live, the parts of an ant, and the lifecycle of a ladybug. Throughout the week we sorted bee shapes, counted ants, and built our own insects. Our favorite books were The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Lucille Colandro. We are looking forward to learning about butterflies and pets in the next two weeks!

Pre-K 3

PreK 3 celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd. The whole week was spend learning about recycling and items that the class can reduce, reuse and recycle. The children worked on sorting pictures of trash and recycle items. We glued together a recycling bin with bottles that spelt our names and matched bottle caps with letters on them to the alphabet. We also planted grass seeds. Let’s see who has a green thumb.

This week, the class is talking about pets. There are so many animals other than dogs and cats to have as a pet. The children practiced our fine motor skills by creating leashes from oval links. The children graphed color fish and practiced counting and writing their numbers. We build homes for our hermit crabs from small blocks and feed the dog bones for lunch.

Some of our favorite books were Michael Recycle by Ellie Patterson, Gary and Harry by Lisa Matsumoto, The Pets We Love by Teaching Strategies, and What Pet To Get? by Emma Dodd.

Pre-K 4

We have been very busy in Pre K 4! The children learned all about keeping the Earth healthy and ways to recycle. They were very excited to do our Freddie the Fish science experiment where they learned that different pollutants can harmfully affect people, animals and plants. Additionally, the children learned all about butterflies and their life cycle. We enjoyed books such as Michael Recycle by Ellie Bethal and Where Does the Butterfly Go When it Rains? by May Garelick.

We were thrilled to release the ladybugs and butterflies that have been undergoing metamorphosis in our classroom over the past two weeks. We discussed the stages each insect went through and what happens to them after they’re released.

We continued working on letter recognition and sounds. We practiced rhyming words, syllables and compound words. We worked recognizing number 1-20 and count quantities. The children counted butterflies and formed simple addition equations as well.

Next week the children can look forward to learning about farm life.
