Peapods

The Peapods would like to welcome a new Peapod! We are so happy to have them join us.

We have been having fun with our tunnel. Some of us loved crawling through it, while some enjoyed looking into it. It won’t be long before they crawl through and find out how much fun it is. We have enjoyed shaking our maracas to music. Some of us really liked shaking them! We’re also having a blast  chasing one another around the room. It’s fun to see if we are being followed.

Some of us like “quiet time” to look through our books, but we are also enjoying being read to. These past couple of weeks a few of the books we enjoyed were RAIN! By Linda Ashman and When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkes.

Peapods II

Happy April! We are officially in spring mode here in Peapods 2! Over the last two weeks we have talked about spring and pond life. Outside of our room you can see the lady bugs we made using dot paint, one of our favorite activities! We also did a pond inspired sensory table where we added a little bit of water and some animals you’d find near a pond. We read a new book entitled The Very Hungry Caterpillars First Spring by Eric Carle. We had to say goodbye for now to a friend who moved up to the Seedlings class. We are going to miss him but we know he is going to do great things in there! We welcomed two new friends into our room! We are so happy to have them and their families as apart of our Peapods 2 group! We are looking forward to another great month and we are excited to see all of the fun things we’ll learn over the next few weeks.

Seedlings

The Seedlings have been having a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful spring weather! We love getting outside and playing, though we get a little disappointed when it rains and we can’t visit our fun playground. But that doesn’t stop us from making the most of our days indoors!

We’ve been exploring the themes of spring, the weather, and rainbows. The Seedlings were so excited to create a special bunny for the lobby, and they love seeing it each day as they walk by. Sometimes, they even start hopping like bunnies to show how much they love it!

In art, we had fun coloring a lion and using yarn to create its fluffy mane in two vibrant colors. Our little artists were so proud of their creations, and we can’t wait for you to see them!

During circle time, we enjoyed reading Little Cloud by Eric Carle, which we talked about how we see clouds in the sky. We also sang “Mr. Sun”, and the children had a blast singing along and dancing!

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been full of fun and learning! We enjoyed lots of time outside on the playground. The children had a blast running around, playing Ring Around the Rosie, zooming on their rocket ships, and taking turns sliding down the slide. In the classroom, we explored the wonders of springtime and pond life. Our little learners had so much fun hopping like frogs and bunnies! We got creative with art projects, painting lily pads and making adorable handprint tulips. We started our day with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted our numbers. Storytime featured Plip-Plop Pond by Karen Pixton and A Little Book About Springtime by Leo Lionni’s Friends. We also welcomed two new friends to our Little Sprouts family! We’re so happy to have them join us.

Beanstalks

What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed spring. We were so excited to use puffy paint to make sunflowers. We really enjoyed reading Dandelions: Stars in the Grass by Mia Posada. This week we are learning about pond life. We loved discussing all the different plants and animals you might find in a pond. We had a blast coloring our very own ducks and ponds! Our favorite book this week was There’s A Frog in the Hole in the LogWe especially loved singing “Five Green and Speckled Frogs.” We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

Over the last 2 weeks we have loved learning about spring and plants! Last week, we learned all about spring. We discussed the colors and animals you see, what we like to do, and the weather during spring. Throughout the week we made patterns with bugs, matched letters, and painted tulips with a fork. Our favorite books from the week were Pete the Cat and the Cool Caterpillar by James Dean and When Will It Be Spring? by Catherine Walters. This week we are learning about flowers and plants. We have discussed the parts of a plant, what plants need to grow, and the life cycle of a plant. Throughout the week we have measured plants, painted flowers, and sorted flowers by color. Our favorite books from the week were Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash by Sarah Weeks and Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. We are excited to learn about birds for the next two weeks!

PreK 3

Pre K 3 has been enjoying the beautiful weather. We were lucky to go for a walk and a field trip this past week.

Speaking of weather! Weather was our topic of the week!  We used our fine motor skills to finger paint a storm, cut out a tornado and sort rain drops, suns and lightening bolts. The children enjoyed reading Flora’s Very Windy Day by Jeanne Birdsall and Whatever the Weather by Karen Wallace.

This week we started to learn about ponds and the animals that live in and around ponds.

We started the week off by fishing for numbers and finger painting a pond with Lilly pads floating all around. The children created a snake. They had to pick two color beads and string the beads together. Pre K 3 worked on hopping the correct number of frogs onto the lily pads. Some of the fun books we read are Welcome To The Pond by Ruth Owen, Over And Under The Pond by Kate Messner and A Frog’s Life Cycle by Mary R. Dunn.

PreK 4

It’s been a great two weeks in Pre K as we have been leaning all about Pond Life. The children learned about all the living things that live over and under the pond, with a focus on frogs. We enjoyed books such as In The Small Small Pond by Denise Fleming and I Don’t Want To Be A Frog by Devorah Petty.

We have been working hard on recognizing and writing lowercase letters. As well as learning their letter sounds. We did this by matching pond themed alphabet and picture cards and writing in our journals. Additionally, we practiced syllables and rhyming words.

Our math concepts included writing and recognizing numbers 11-20, understanding sets of items and which set is more or less.

Next week, the children can look forward to a fun filled week learning about insects!
