Peapods

The Peapods would like to welcome Spring! We are looking forward to a nice change of weather so we can go outside.

Our weeks have been full of busy activities. We had a fun time playing with the sensory bin. We enjoyed digging in it and finding fun shapes and squishy things . Another fun sensory activity we did was try jell-o. We didn’t know what to do with it. Some of us ate it and some wanted no part of it. We can always try it again.A couple of books we read were Wake Up Spring! By Lisa Campbell Ernst and When Will it be Spring? by Catherine Walters.

Peapods II

Peapods 2 has been doing a lot of celebrating over the last two weeks! We started off by doing a dot paint project to celebrate Holi! Using dot paints is one of our favorite activities. We then moved into our St. Patrick’s day celebrations! We got to experience some new sensory activities which included green pasta and lucky charms cereal in our sensory bottles. We loved shaking the bottles and dancing to music with them. We also had sensory play with green jell-o, we were surprised in how many friends enjoyed it! It was a fun activity where we got to explore it by touch and taste. We read a new book called You Shamrock My World by Brooke Backsen. We are officially in the spring season and we are looking forward to many sunny days ahead!

Seedlings

The Seedlings had a great time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! We want to thank our classroom parents for making it all happen. The children couldn’t get enough of the whipped cream – what a delicious treat!

We had fun learning about pond animals and made cute handprint ducks. We also enjoyed scooping gold coins into black pots for St. Patrick’s Day.

When the weather is nice, we’ve been having a blast on the playground! We love going down the slide, jumping off the mushrooms, and playing in the toy house.

During circle time, we read Looking for Leprechauns by Sheila Keenan and sang “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

Little Sprouts

Little Sprouts had an exciting and busy two weeks in our classroom! We explored the weather and had so much fun trying to pronounce the funny names of different clouds. We read Little Genius Weather by Joe Rhatigan, which helped us learn even more about the weather and how it changes. St. Patrick’s Day was another highlight! We read How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace and played with our sensory bottle. The excitement in our classroom was through the roof when a sneaky leprechaun visited, leaving behind shamrocks and tiny footprints! Our party was a blast, we especially loved our sunglasses. One of our favorite activities was playing with the parachute. We had so much fun shaking it as fast as we could and watching it ripple. Every morning, we started our day by singing the “Good Morning” song, reviewing the days of the week, practicing our ABCs, and counting numbers.

Beanstalks

What a wonderful two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed all the different kinds of weather. We loved getting to talk about all the things we might do in the snow or rain. We had a blast  making our own umbrellas. Our favorite book was We Play On A Rainy Day by Angela Shelf Medearis. This week we are learning about St. Patrick’s Day. We thought it was so silly to use all the different materials to paint our shamrocks and loved experimenting with all of them. We really enjoyed reading Good Luck!: A St. Patrick’s Day Story by Joan Holub and singing “Five Little Leprechauns.” We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

Over the past 2 weeks we have loved learning about weather and St. Patrick’s Day. Last week we learned about the weather. We discussed types of weather, looked at different clouds, and discussed what activities we can do during different weather. Through the week we spelled our names with rainclouds, made our own stormy sky, and made sunshine patterns. Our favorite books from the week were Raindrop Plop by Wendy Lewison and Split Splat by Amy Gibson. This week we are learning about St. Patrick’s day. We made a leprechaun trap in hopes of catching a leprechaun. We also painted a shamrock, sorted shamrocks by their size, and spelled our name using gold coins. Our favorite books from this week were The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day by Natasha Wing and How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace. We are looking forward to learning about spring and plants in the next two weeks!

PreK 3

Prek3 was Shamrockin’ last week!  Leprechauns, shamrocks, rainbows, pots-o-gold, and lots of color were the things we talked about while learning about St. Patrick’s Day and Holi.

The children used their counting and fine motor skills while using clip cards, counting out gold coins, working on complete the pattern worksheets, and creating colorful artwork using markers, foil, and water! The children also created beautiful Holi banners and large class mosaic rainbows.

Some of our favorite books included The Luckiest St. Patrick’s Day Ever, by Teddy Slater, The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day, by Nat Wing, How to Catch a Leprechaun, by Adam Wallace, and Festival of Color, by Kabir Sehgel and Surishtha Sehigal.

This week we are continuing our colorful theme of rainbows!  Roy G. Biv was introduced as a way to remember the color order of a rainbow…red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo,  and violet.  Sometimes abbreviated as just  red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Again we are working on counting, fine motor skills, and colors.  Counting, sorting, and stringing colored beads, and gluing colored strips of paper in order to create our own rainbows!  We also observed classroom experiments to see what would happen…we placed skittles around a plate and covered with warm water to watch rainbows form.  A walking rainbow was created by using paper towels,  markers, and cups of water.

Some of the books we enjoyed have been What Makes a Rainbow, by Betty Ann Schwartz, Planting a Rainbow, by Lois Elhert, and A Color of My Own, by Leo Lionni.

Our weeks are always enhanced with Stretch and Grow, and Music with Miss Lisa!

PreK 4

In Pre K 4 this week the children have been learning about the weather. We talked about severe weather, types of clouds and the job of a Meteorologist. The children enjoyed the books Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett, Worm Weather by Jean Taft and Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco.

This week we worked on number sense,  recognizing numbers 11-20 and how many more and how many less. The children used blue counters to represent the number of raindrops they counted. We also worked on adding numbers using weather symbols.

The children practiced writing upper and lowercase letters e and f as well as their sound on their handwriting worksheet. In our journals we wrote down what our favorite type of weather is and why. The children used tornado puzzle cards to make rhymes and practiced letter recognition as well.

Next week the children can look forward to learning about ponds and what types of animals and insects live in them.
