Peapods

Peapods

As the weather continues to be amazing, we continue to take advantage of it. We’re enjoying our walks and getting outside. We love watching the world around us.
Aside from our new walker, we have a new “creeper” and crawler. Some of us have even started to sit up on our own!
We have been have a great time with our new sorter. We’re learning how to use our fine motor skills to get the shapes in the box and feeling very proud.
One of the books we enjoyed was Chester’s Way by Kevin Henkes. We also enjoyed many songs including “Row. Row, Row, Your Boat”.

Peapods II

September is here! Wow! This week we said “see you soon” to two of our friends who have moved up to Seedlings! We are so proud of them and wish them all the best on their new adventures. As for our other babies we have been learning about Pirates, dinosaurs and ourselves! We love looking in the mirror and discovering ourselves. Some friends have mastered their signs and words while others are doing very well practicing them! We love our reading time and have been enjoying the great weather and exploring outside! We are excited to see what the month and the start of fall will bring.

Seedlings

We’ve been having such a great time in the Seedlings’ room with our new friends!

The Seedlings made a BIG bus for the front lobby and it had ALL of our pictures on it! We absolutely love it and are so excited to walk by it and see our beautiful faces on it. We love to point out other classmates on the bus too! Mr. Jon took the Seedlings on the bus and we were able to walk around it. Most of were thrilled and some of were a little unsure but everyone was able to have great time.

During circle time, we read  Llama Llama misses Mama by Anna Dewdney and sang “The Wheels on the Bus”.

As Fall begins to set in, please remember to label all of your child’s clothing and belongings.  Thank you!

Little Sprouts

Little Sprouts has had so much fun learning all about themselves and Apples/trees! Some of our favorite things were using dot makers to color apples, we used paint to make our handprints, and used crayons to color our apple tree. We enjoyed celebrating Margot’s 2nd birthday! During circle time we sang our Good Morning Song, talked about the weather and dressed up our weather bear. We loved reading When I Grow Up by Mercer Mayer and Tree by Britta Teckentrup.

Beanstalks

What a fantastic two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks! Last week we talked about space and used dot markers to make our own planets! This week we talked all about us, and made flowers to show how tall all the friends in our class are. We have been enjoying the cooling weather and have even started going on walks around the neighborhood with the Saplings class. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

The past two week we have loved learning about the zoo and school! Last week we learned about the zoo. We discussed what kinds of habitats animals lived in, what animals live in the zoo and our favorite zoo animal to visit. In addition we made zebras using strips of paper and painted our own lion using a fork as a stamp. We also worked on our pencil grip by tracing lines to reach the zoo animals. Our favorite books from this week were Elmer by David McKee and 1,2,3 to the Zoo by Eric Carle. This week we are discussing back to school and school rules. We have discussed red and green choices, how to calm down when we are upset, and made our class rules. Throughout the week we have practiced recognizing our numbers, colors, and letters.  We also painted our own composition book pattern using a sponge. Our favorite books from this week were Pete the Cat: Rockin’ in Our School Shoes by Eric Litwin and Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. We are looking forward to learning all about ourselves and our families next week.

PreK 3

Prek3 has been busy these past two weeks transitioning from summer learning to the start of a new school year!

Last week we finished up with learning about the zoo and zoo animals.  The children had fun with a “feed the monkey” number review, creatlng zebras by gluing black strips of paper on a white horse, working on an animal sort (placing animals in the correct environments), and making colorful giraffe puppets by coloring and gluing the head of a giraffe to a paper bag. Some of our favorite books were – Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire,  Animal Strike at the Zoo by Karma Wilson and Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo by John Lithgow.

This week we are learning about rules in the school/classroom, and green and red choices. The children have learned that our classroom rules are simple – Be Kind, Be Safe, Do your Best! Everyone took turns naming something that shows how they can be kind, safe, or do their best.  The children were also introduced to the concept of green and red choices.  (Green being good behaviors that we will keep encouraging!) Each classroom has used visual aids to help the children determine what are green and red choices.

Some of the other activities this week included decorating and lacing “school shoes” based on a story we read, sorting green and red choices,  and creating a “just a dot, not a lot” glue bottle picture to teach how to correctly use a glue bottle.  We also read some fun books, such as – Tyrannosaurus Wrecks by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen, Pete the Cat, Rockin in my School Shoes by James Dean, and How Dinosaurs go to School by Janet Yolen and Mark Teague.

PreK 4

In Pre K 4 we wrapped up our summer by talking about Zoo animals. The children learned about different jobs at the zoo and how to classify animals by size, color and species. We enjoyed reading books such as The View At The Zoo by Kathleen Long Bostrom and Move  by Steve Jenkins and Robin Page.

The school year has begun and we started out by reviewing classroom rules,  red and green choices and how to be a good friend. We talked about what it means to “try” in relation to things that are hard as well as trying to do our best work by staying on the lines while writing letters, making purposeful marks while drawing and coloring neatly.

We began our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. The children will be using workbook pages to learn how to correctly form letters while remembering that we always start a letter at the top. The children even learned a song about it!

Next week the children can look forward to an All About Me week!
