Peapods
Peapods
The Peapods have been having a busy time these past couple of weeks. We welcomed a new friend and sadly one of our friends moved on up to Peapods 2.
We now have a new walker! He’s just starting out but taking more and more steps every day. We’re wondering who will be next!
We have been enjoying playing with our shape sorters and crawling through our tunnel and dancing!
One of our books this week was Substitute Groundhog by Pat Miller and one of our songs was “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. We just love clapping to that song!
Peapods II
Happy February! Peapods 2 has been very busy over the last two weeks! We celebrated the Chinese New Year and Groundhogs day. We read a new book entitled Busy Lunar New Year published by Campbell. We also did two new art activities, we used dot paint to decorate a Chinese New Year picture and we were also introduced to paint and paintbrushes to create a Valentine’s Day heart. We had so much fun with the paint! February is off to a great start and we are looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day next week!
Seedlings
The Seedlings have been super busy these past two weeks! We had so much fun celebrating Chinese New Year. We learned that it was the year of the Snake and we’re great at hissing like one. They had a great time coloring the Snake and making Chinese lanterns.
It was also kindness and friendship week. We tried working hard on using our gentle hands and words with all of our friends. We love giving our friends hugs, high fives, and even fist bumps. The Seedlings had fun making our friendship wreath and love seeing it on our wall!
We were to go to one of our favorite places, the playground! It’s been such a long time because of how frigid it’s been. The children loved being outside, running around, and seeing all the toys there.
During circle time, we read Little Dino’s Don’t Hit by Michael Dahl and sang the song “The more we get together”.
Little Sprouts
The last two weeks have been filled with exciting learning and creative fun! We explored Lunar New Year and Groundhog Day! We started each day by singing the “Good Morning” song, reviewing the days of the week, practicing our ABCs, and counting numbers. The children also loved dressing up our weather bear to match the day’s weather. We learned about the Year of the Snake. The children had fun coloring snakes with crayons and exploring the traditions of this celebration. Using dot markers, the children created colorful groundhog art. We got crafty by making handprint heart decorations to spread love in our classroom. Mixing two colors and discovering new shades was a fun and messy sensory experience for the children. We were thrilled to enjoy some fresh air and playtime on the playground. The children had a blast running, climbing, with friends. The children loved reading Lunar New Year by Campbell Books and How to Catch a Groundhog by Alice Walstead.
Beanstalks
What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed Lunar New Year. We were so excited to make our very own dragon puppets to go with How to Catch A Dragon by Adam Wallace. We also loved dancing to Dragon Dance by the Kiboomers. This week we learned about Groundhog Day. We loved talking about the difference between winter and spring. Our favorite book this week was The Secret of the First One Up by Iris Hiskey. We were very happy to get back outside for a bit this week as well. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
Saplings
Over the last two weeks we had so much fun learning about Chinese New Year, mittens, and Groundhogs Day. Last week we discussed Chinese New Year and mittens. We talked about the colors you can see during the New Year, what animal this year is represented by, and how it is celebrated. Throughout the week we matched lantern shapes, decorated lanterns, and matched the letters in our name. Last week we also designed mittens using dot paint and made a class book inspired by Jan Brett’s book The Mitten. Our favorite books from last week were How to Catch a Dragon by Adam Wallace and The Mitten by Jan Brett. This week we are learning about Groundhogs Day. We have discussed if the groundhog saw his shadow and what that means, if we like winter or spring better, and how you can see your shadow. Through the week we have practiced our AB patterns, fed the groundhog letters, and made our February self portrait using Mat Man. Our favorite books from this week were Bear Shadow by Frank Asch and Ten Grouchy Groundhogs by Kathryn Heling. We are looking forward to learning about Valentines Day and dental health in the next two weeks!
PreK 3
We had a lot happen the past two weeks.
We celebrated the Chinese New Year! The children practiced using their scissor skills to create a beautiful lanterns. We colored a festive dragon and glued it together. The children laced a red purse together and added coins. Gung Hay Fat Choy!
Pre K 3 also learned about Groundhog Day. Most of our friends predicted correctly that the Groundhog would see his shadow and have 6 more weeks of winter. We cut and pasted a groundhog hat to wear home and created a groundhog popping out of his hole craft.
This week we are learning about Dental Health. We painted with toothbrushes, made a tooth graph, cleaned cavities from teeth and reviewed with letter teeth.
Some of our favorite books have been: How to Catch a Dragon by Adam Wallace, Groundhog’s Special Secret by Iris Hiskey Arno, Just Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer and I Lost My Tooth by Mo Williams.
PreK 4
We began the week in Pre K 4 talking about Groundhog Day. The children were excited to learn of the groundhogs prediction and report it to the class. We graphed our predictions and enjoyed books such as The Substitute Groundhog and The Grumpy Groundhog. The children practiced recognizing shapes, counting quantities and working on writing lowercase letters, all in keeping with a groundhog theme.
We finished our study of Arctic Animals, the children learned many facts about orcas, snow owls, and polar bears. We also did a study on penguins, making a chart to see if we were as tall as an Emperor Penguin!
Next week we’ll be talking about ways we can show kindness as well as Valentine’s Day.
