Peapods
Peapods
It certainly has been busy in the Peapod room! We have been busy dancing, popping bubbles, crawling under high chairs, and even crawling into a shelf! You never know what we will do next. Some of us now enjoy going through the tunnel and some like to jump on it.
We have been enjoying playing with our big jar of caps. More of us are learning how to place the caps in the jar slot by watching our friends who know how to do it already. We are also learning how to sign “all done” and we’re working on “eat”. So far the weather has been great and we love getting outside. One of our books read to us was One More Acorn by Don Freeman.
Peapods II
Welcome November! Peapods 2 has been talking about the forest and hibernation. We talked about animals that live there and made handprint foxes and dot paint bears. As we get ready for Thanksgiving, you can see our turkeys that we made outside of our classroom. We have been practicing using our words and have been doing a great job communicating with our friends and teachers. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the month with bring!
Seedlings
The Seedlings have been learning so much these past two weeks! We loved learning about Scarecrows and had a lot of fun coloring a big scarecrow as a group. We also made tissue paper crows and that was great for helping our fine motor skills. We all love to say “CAW!” when asked what the crow says.
We have been learning about how some animals hibernate for the winter, such as a bear. It was very silly to color a bear in his bed for the winter. We loved it!
During circle time, we read Mouse’s First Fall by Lauren Thompson and sang “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” with our story sticks that we love as a group.
If you bring in winter accessories for your child, please remember to have them labeled with their name on it.
Little Sprouts
Little Sprouts has had so much fun learning about forest animals and hibernation! Some of our art projects were making handprint foxes and a bear cave. Some of our favorite centers were trains, building caterpillars and ladybugs, free art, and playing with the glitter sensory toys. We did an amazing job for our fire drill! During circle time we sang our good morning song, talked about the weather, and dressed up our weather bear. We sang the days of the week, our ABC’s, and numbers. We loved reading Little Bear by IglooBooks. We loved dancing around to the hibernation song!
Beanstalks
What a wonderful two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks! Last week we talked about hibernation and all the animals who sleep the cold winter away! We loved reading Sleep, Black Bear, Sleep by Jane Yolen and Heidi E.Y. Stemple. This week we discussed nocturnal animals, and talked about how life would be different for animals who are awake at night. We practiced our shape matching by helping owls find their matching trees and have been trying to make the most of the last of the warm weather. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
Saplings
Over the past two weeks, we have loved learning about nocturnal animals and hibernation. Last week, we discussed nocturnal animals. We talked about what animals are nocturnal, the parts of a bat, and sorted animals that are nocturnal and diurnal. Also we painted our own bat silhouette, marble painted a spiders web with spider letters to spell our name, and we measured animals using a star ruler. Our favorite books from the week were Bat Jamboree by Kathi Appelt and Little Bat by Tania Cox. This week we are learning about hibernation. We discussed animals that hibernate, places animals hibernate, and the parts of a bear. We had so much fun painting our own bear using a fork stamp, finishing patterns with hibernating animals, and matching numbers 1-5. Our favorite books from this week were Bear Can’t Sleep by Marni McGee and Bear Snores On by Jane Chapman. While completing our activities, we worked on our fine motor skills, pen grip, number and letter recognition, and how to spell our name. We are looking forward to learning about the seasons and Thanksgiving over the next two weeks!
PreK 3
Trees, trees, trees.
PreK 3 is learning all about Trees!
Last week, the children worked on number recognition by counting items on a card and using our fine motor skill to pinch a clothes pin on the correct number. The children learned the parts of the tree. We then used scissors to cut the parts from the paper and glue the words to the right part of the tree. We finger painted leaves on trees and worked on leaf patterns.
Does pizza grow on trees? Sad to say, “No!”
PreK 3 learned what foods do grow on trees and who lives in trees this week. The children practiced their letter finding skills while searching for letters in the coconut tree! PreK 3 glued their names on a maple tree and sorted foods that grow on trees vs. food that do not. We had a lot of fun taking turns while playing the Avalanche and Sneaky, Sneaky Squirrel games.
The classes also had a lot of fun at Stretch n Grow and visiting Lions and Oakwood parks.
Some of our favorite stories were: The Grand Old Tree by Judith Bauer Stamper, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin and John Archabault, and Tree Count by Trish Holland.
PreK 4
Over the past two weeks, the children have been learning all about trees and leaves and pumpkins! We learned about the life cycle of trees and pumpkins and we are able to tell the difference between deciduous and coniferous trees. We also learned about the parts of a pumpkin. Our favorite books were Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano and Always Everly by Nate Wragg.
We enjoyed all of our fun activities like Stretch n Grow, gymnastics and Elefante Music. Next week, we will learn about scarecrows. Have a great weekend!
