Peapods
Peapods
The Peapods are enjoying Fall. We enjoyed being able to touch our giant pumpkin. We were able to feel how rough the stem is and how smooth the pumpkin was. We were also able to feel the squishy inside of the pumpkin. The weather has been perfect for us to be able to go outside. Our walkers are having fun playing with some of the big toys in the playground, and our stroller babies enjoy going for walks. We all hope we have many more beautiful days outside.
One of our Halloween books we enjoyed was Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins by Dianne Ochiltree and our fun song was “Five Little Pumpkins”.
Peapods II
See you later October! We can’t believe how quickly this last month has gone. We celebrated two birthdays, Halloween and Diwali! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year is going to bring, we have a lot to look forward to! We have been loving reading books, taking care of the baby dolls, and pretending to cook with our play kitchen utensils. We hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween and we want to wish those who celebrate a very happy Diwali!
Seedlings
The last 2 weeks flew by! We’ve been so busy in the Seedlings room! We loved celebrating two birthdays and our Halloween party. We would like to thank all the parents that made it possible. The children absolutely loved their Halloween party.
The Seedlings loved watching Miss Paige carve out the pumpkin to make a beautiful Jack-o-Lantern. Then we enjoyed the sensory bags that were made with the guts and seeds of the pumpkin. It was so squishy!
We were thrilled to do so much Halloween art. We painted black cats, ghosts, handprints ghosts, and so many pumpkins!
During circle time, we read A Halloween Mask for Monster by Virginia Mueller and sang the “Spooky Wheels on the Bus”. Also during circle time, we practiced saying “Happy Halloween!” and “Trick or Treat!”.
Little Sprouts
Little Sprouts has had so much fun learning about Spiders, Bats, Halloween and Diwali! Some of our art projects were painting giant ghosts, making handprint ghosts and bats, we used stickers to make monsters and used dot markers to make a Diya. Some of our favorite centers were ladder connectors, block building, puzzles, wagon wheels, and playing with the glitter sensory bags and robots. We loved Ms. Emmy carve the pumpkin and squishing the pumpkin guts in the bag. We also got to play with the mini pumpkin and learned how pumpkins come in different sizes and colors! This Wednesday Ms. Lisa taught us some Halloween songs. Our favorite was the “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. We loved reading Don’t Tickle the Ghost by Sam Taplin and Diwail Storybook for Kids by Ambsachi Nila.
Beanstalks
What an amazing two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks! Last week we talked about leaves and trees and made two different trees, one with real leaves we collected on our walk and one with leaves we made. Make sure to check it out in the lobby! This week we were so excited about Halloween and talked about our costumes and how to trick or treat safely. We read Little Goblins Ten by Pamela Jane and loved dancing to ‘Monster Mash’. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week! Happy Halloween and Happy Diwali!
Saplings
We had so much fun learning about trees/ leaves and Halloween these past two weeks. Last week we learned all about trees and leaves. We discussed food that comes from trees, animals that live in trees, and colors of leaves. Thought the week we matched pumpkin shapes, used leaves with letters to make a name leaf pile, and made our own colorful leaves using a coffee filter. Our favorite books were There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro and When the Leaf Blew In by Steve Metzger. This week we are discussing Halloween and Diwali. We have discussed what we are going to be for Halloween as well as what you can do during the celebration of Diwali. We have sorted letters in our name vs not in our name, painted a spider, used a stamp to make Diwali fireworks and carved our class pumpkin. Our favorite books from this week were Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O’Connell. While completing our activities we worked on our fine motor skills, pen grip, number and letter recognition, and how to spell our name. We are looking forward to learning about hibernation and nocturnal animals in the next two weeks.
PreK 3
Last week, in Prek3, it was all about apples! We learned about the life cycle of apples and apple trees, reviewed numbers with apple counting and measuring segments of “the worm” in the apple. We worked on an apple shape sort and made apple prints with actual cut apples. The children tasted various apple slices and determined which ones were class favorites, they learned and labeled parts of an apple, found out who had been apple picking, determined their favorite color apple, and how they enjoy eating them! Some of our favorite books were Ten Apples Up On Top, by Dr. Suess, Peppa Goes Apple Picking, by Meredith Rusu, and Johnny Appleseed, by Pat Hutchins.
This week has been all about Pumpkins, Halloween, and Diwali. As we’ve been learning about the life cycle of Pumpkins, we’ve loved decorating our own for Halloween! Each class voted on how the classroom pumpkins would be carved and had the opportunity to see, touch, and smell what was inside (seeds, strands, and pulp), very slimy indeed! After the seeds dried we used them in a number review. We also enjoyed making some spooky crafts, we put together our names with a pumpkin puzzle, and created colorful fireworks prints for Diwali, the Festival of Lights! Some of the books we enjoyed included Ready for Pumpkins, by Kate Duke, Too Many Pumpkins, by Linda White, and Diwali, by Katie Dicker.
We are very happy that the weather continues to cooperate in allowing us to enjoy our walks and bus trips to the local parks!
PreK 4
The children have been having fun in Pre K 4 learning about Nocturnal and Hibernating animals. We learned facts about spider and bats and the difference between animals that hibernate, migrate and adapt. The children enjoyed stories such as The Bear Snored On by Karma Wilson and Hibernation Station by Kurt Cyrus.
Our HWT letters this week were C,O,G and Q. We wrote about our favorite part of Halloween in our journals remembering to keep our letters between the lines and leaving spaces between words. The children worked on beginning letter sounds while learning to recognize lowercase letters. We continued working on counting and recognizing numbers as well as finishing nocturnal animal patterns.
Next week the children can look forward to learning about different types of trees and leaves.
