It helps other families find a place they can trust, too!

Peapods

There’s a lot happening in the Peapod room. We now have a very smiley walker and some of us are now pulling ourselves up and standing! We are so proud.
We have been enjoying building with our big soft blocks, and, we love knocking them down!  We also had fun making handprint leaves for fall. We hope you will enjoy them.
One of the songs we enjoyed was “One Little Finger” and we sat and enjoyed The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Jane E. Gerver and Steven Kroll being read to us.

Peapods II

Peapods 2 has had another amazing two weeks! We have a few new walkers and some friends that are getting so close! We practiced using paint brushes for the first time to create ghosts. We did an awesome job using them and we can’t wait to continue practicing with them! You can see our art work displayed in the front lobby. We have been getting into the Halloween spirit and have been enjoying a new book entitled Don’t Feed the Pumpkin by Make Believe Ideas. Peapods 2 is looking forward to the remainder of October, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for us!

Seedlings

The Seedlings have been so busy that the last two weeks have flown by! We’ve been having a great time creating all kinds of artwork for Fall and Halloween. We love seeing our crafts displayed on the walls.

We had so much fun making our handprint candy corn (Ms. Paige’s favorite!) for the lobby, and we’re excited to see our jack-o’-lanterns with their silly faces hanging up. The Seedlings love looking at their pictures popping out of the pumpkins and enjoy identifying their friends. We were also thrilled to make tape-resist art featuring the word “Fall.” It was wonderful to see all the beautiful fall colors we created.

The Seedlings love being outside in the playground and just can’t get enough of it! They have so much fun running around, using the ramp, and jumping off the mushrooms.

During circle time, we’ve been reading Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hills, which has quickly become a class favorite, and singing and dancing to “The Halloween Freeze Dance.”

If you have a favorite Halloween or Fall book you’d like to share with the class, please feel free to bring it in.

Please remember to label all of your children’s belongings.

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been filled with lots of fun and learning! We explored two exciting themes: fire prevention and pumpkins! Each morning, we started our day with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted together as a class. We loved reading I Am a Little Fire Truck by Josephine Page and This Little Pumpkin by Aly Fronis! Our young artists got creative making handprint firefighters and using dot markers to color their own fires. They also made adorable fist bump pumpkins and painted mini pumpkins! The children had so much fun washing their ABCs and numbers and exploring pumpkin sensory play. We even mixed paint colors together to discover new shades – it was a big hit in the classroom!

Beanstalks

What a great two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. Last week we discussed Fire Safety and the brave firefighters who help their communities. We loved working on our fine motor skills when we used our dot stickers to make a fire. We really enjoyed reading Little Squirt the Fire Engine by Catherine Kenworthy and dancing to “Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck”. We had a blast taking turns with the firefighter costume in our dress up area and pretending to spray down the “fires” in the kitchen center.

This week, we learned about pumpkins. We loved talking about all the different shapes and colors that pumpkins can come in. We had so much fun exploring the way that different brushes and painting materials affected the way our pumpkins looked. Our favorite book this week was 16 Runaway Pumpkins by Dianne Ochiltree. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

The Saplings have had lots of fun  the last 2 weeks, talking about fire safety and learning about trees.

We learned what to do during a fire drill and how to be safe. We talked about the parts and tools on a fire truck and what firefighters wear to keep them safe in a fire. Some of the books we enjoyed included I’m Brave by Kate and Jim McMullan and Fire Engine No. 9 by Mike Austin.

We have enjoyed learning about trees this week. We talked about parts of a tree and what happens to them in different seasons. We painted squirrels, sorted fall colored leaves and worked on our fine motor skills with lacing. Our favorites books this week were There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro and Tree by Britta Teckentrup.

Pre-K 3

Fall is in the air!  Pre K 3 has been learning about fire safety and trees the past two weeks.

Thank you to all the Firefighters! The children spent the week learning about fire safety, what number we should call if we need help (911), and practiced Stop, Drop and Roll. The children created a picture by tearing yellow, red, and orange papers into small pieces then took the papers and glued them to a 911. We practiced counting and number recognition by counting the rungs of a ladder and finding the correct ”fire” to match and also by rolling dice and covering the correct fire hat.

This week, we learned about Trees. The class discussed the parts of the tree. The children looked and matched numbers onto the crown of the tree. We sorted foods that grow on a tree and made leaf rubbings with real leaves.

Some of our favorite books were Clifford The Firehouse Dog by Norman Bridwell,  Going To The Firehouse by Mercer Mayer, The Grand Old Tree by Mary DePalma and Who Lives In A Tree by Trish Holland.

Pre-K 4

In Pre k 4 the children spent a week reviewing Fire Safety. We talked about following the rules during a school fire drill, stop, drop and roll and how to prevent fires from happening. The children enjoyed books such No Dragons For Tea by Jean E. Pendziwol and Clifford The Firehouse Dog by Norman Bidwell.

The children also learned about types of Woodland Animals and what their environment is like.

We worked on handwriting, writing in our journals and separating letters by the lines, which letters had straight lines, curvy lines or both. We matched letters and sorted uppercase letters from lowercase letters. The children also worked on number recognition and one to one correspondence by counting and building numbers.

Next week the children can look forward to learning about Nocturnal Animals.
