Peapods
The Peapods have exciting news. We have welcomed two new Peapods! We have also had one of our Peapods move up to Peapods 2. We know she is going to thrive along with her friends, but we will truly miss her.
We have been practicing with our shape sorter and our jar of caps. We’re working very hard on our fine motor skills. We also continue to work on “signing “ all done and more.
We have had fun acting out The Itsy Bitsy Spider and reading one of our books Mouse’s First Harvest by Lauren Thompson.
Peapods II
Happy October! Peapods 2 is officially in the fall spirit! Inside of our classroom you can see our pumpkin art hanging up. We had so much fun using orange dot paint to decorate our pumpkins. We also have been listening to fall inspired music with our favorite being The Autumn Leaves are Falling Down. We also have been exploring and playing with pumpkins. We have been rolling them, touching them and some of us tried to stack them. We have two new one year olds in our class! We are looking forward to what October will have in store with us and we will be counting down the days until Halloween!
Seedlings
The Seedlings have been having such a great time over the past two weeks! We’ve had some warmer days, but we’ve really been enjoying the crisp fall air in the mornings.
One of our favorite playground activities is collecting as many leaves as we can. This time, we brought them into our artwork! The children had so much fun gluing leaves and stems to create their own trees. It was exciting to bring pieces of nature into our classroom and put them to use.
We also made “punch-kins,” which were a big hit! The children loved feeling the squish of the paint and stamping their fists on the paper to make pumpkins.
In our sensory bin, we have real mini pumpkins and leaves. The children have been exploring how pumpkins feel and whether they are heavy or light. We’ve also been practicing naming the different colors of the leaves and pumpkins, and the Seedlings are working so hard on their colors, they’re doing a fantastic job!
Another favorite activity has been blowing bubbles with bubble wands. They absolutely LOVE practicing and get so excited when they can pop the bubbles they create.
During circle time, we’ve been enjoying I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen, as well as singing and dancing to “Shake My Sillies Out.”
Little Sprouts
The past two weeks have been filled with so much fun and learning! We explored two exciting themes: Autumn and Trees/Leaves. Each morning, we began with our Good Morning song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted together as a class. During story time, we enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Fall by Eric Carle and Where’s the Leaf Thief? by Alice Hemming. Our young artists got creative by making handprint leaves, painting trees, and using dot markers to decorate fall leaves. We also had fun searching for the alphabet in leaves and pumpkins! The children especially loved our parachute games, playing with playdough, and color-sorting magnetic fish with fishing poles.
Beanstalks
What a nice two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks. The past two weeks we’ve been discussing trees and leaves. We thought it was so cool to use straws to make our own colorful fall trees. We really enjoyed reading Mouse’s First Fall by Lauren Thompson and singing “All The Leaves Are Falling Down.” We loved collecting leaves during our outside time and discussing all the different colors we saw.
Saplings
The Saplings have had lots of fun during the last 2 weeks, talking about their families and learning about apples.
We learned that all our families are different, some of us have brothers, some have sisters, some have babies and some have pets.
We talked about all the things families do together and where they can live. Some of the books we enjoyed included One Family by George Shannon and The Family Book by Todd Parr.
We have enjoyed learning about apples this week. We talked about parts of an apple and what colors an apple can be. We painted with apples, made apple patterns and predicted if an apple would sink or float. Our favorites books for the week included The Apple Star Adventure by Chris Summerhayes and Apple Trouble by Ragnhild Scamell.
Pre-K 3
Our friends had a lot of fun the past two weeks learning about each other’s families and apples! We drew self portraits and colored our houses, we even counted apples on trees and completed apple patterns. The children also worked on some fine motor skills by placing colored beads that matched the color of their pipe cleaners!
The children have been loving our “Week of Apples”! We learned the life cycle of an apple, the parts of an apple and even some apple related vocabulary words. I would say they are having a lot of fun reading and learning about this topic!
Some of our friends’ favorite books the past two weeks have been One Family by George Shannon, Love is a Family by Roma Downey, I Am an Apple by Jean Marzollo, and Apples by Erika L. Shores.
Pre-K 4
Over the past two weeks we have loved learning about apples, squirrels, and fall. While learning about squirrels we discussed their lifecycle, types of squirrels, and what they eat. We have also discussed activities you can do in fall and seasonal differences. Last week, the children loved making applesauce and their own apple volcano using baking soda and vinegar. Throughout both weeks, we practiced our number and letter recognition as well as learned about compound words and completed word puzzles. Our favorite books were Earl the Squirrel by Don Freeman and Crunchy Leaves, Cozy Sweaters by Essie Bell.
