Sproutlings News – July 16, 2018

-Water play will continue to take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays through August. Please send your child to school in their bathing suit with sunscreen applied. Summer Camp students can bring a bathing suit to change at school. Please send your child in “water proof” shoes for water play.

-When in doubt, label everything! It is very helpful to teachers when towels, bathing suits, clothing, etc. has names or initials written on the tags. This helps ensure that all of your child’s belongings end up in the right cubby at the end of the day. Thank you so much for your help with this!

-As always, please return a Universal Health Record after your child’s yearly physical. These can be found in the lobby. Please also provide an updated vaccination record whenever your child receives a new vaccination. All children over the age of 6 months will need to receive a flu shot by December 31st.

Peapods

It was another busy week in the Peapod classroom! Music time is a favorite of ours. We are clapping along to the songs. We love to make noise. We are very good at it!  Miss Lu has been making giant bubbles for us to pop. We love to try and catch them. We have also enjoyed going outside in this nice weather. We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Seedlings

The Seedlings had an exciting week! We spent our entire week talking about different types of transportation. We learned about cars, trucks, trains, and boats. We painted with different types of cars to see what kind of tracks they would leave behind. The Seedlings had a fun time looking at the different patterns. Then we took different shapes to make a truck. We’re getting better at identifying our shapes. We also put boats in our sensory table and watched them float and move them around. We love our water play. The Seedlings cannot get enough of it. During circle time we sang “Today is Monday”  and read Calling all Cars by Sue Fliess and Sarah Beise.  We would like to say thank you to Ezra for bringing cupcakes and and sharing with the class to celebrate his 2nd birthday. Happy 2nd Birthday Ezra!
Please remember to label every piece of your child’s water play gear as a lot of the children have the same clothes and water shoes.

Beanstalks

Wow, time is flying by and summer is in full swing in the Beanstalks classroom.  We have been getting used to the new routines and doing lots of fun activities together.  We introduced two new themes in the past two weeks.  We talked about the beach and transportation.  We thought of things we see at the beach and asked the question “What is your favorite thing to do at the beach?“ We also learned the song “5 Little Sandcastles” and “Baby Beluga.”  In our dramatic play center we added sunglasses and beach towels and had a picnic on the beach.  In math we counted seashells and did a matching seashell activity. In art we painted with sand to make an ocean, made a crab and did lots of coloring too.

This week we discussed transportation and thought of different modes of transport.   We worked on sorting our transportation counters by color and made “Names plates.”  In science/sensory we had a car wash station to wash and dry our cars and trucks as well.  In art this week we painted with trucks, watercolor painted a boat and did lots of coloring to work on our fine motor skills.  Next week we will introduce a new theme which will be “The Farm”

Pre K 3

This week in PreK-3 we learned about transportation. In large group we answered the question “How do we get to school?”and hung our answers up on the wall. In math we counted vehicles and made “AB” patterns with our counters. In literacy the kids found the letters in their names and stamped them on license plates. We read Calling All Cars and A Day at the Airport. In art, we made a traffic light and learned what the different colors mean. We also painted using cars as our paintbrush. Outside we played “red light green light” to help dry us off from water play! The kids had a great time playing! We had a fun time at water play this week! Have a great weekend!

Pre K 4

This week in Pre K 4 we were Superheroes! We learned what it means to be a hero and make the good choice. We practiced our super powers in our super hero obstacle course and we made our own masks. The class practiced throwing bean bags in our Captain America game and balls in our Spider Man Sticky Web. This week we practiced writing the numeral 1.

In Pre K 4, we have been focusing on kindness. Our friends are earning “Kind Stones” working hard to earn a class prize. To earn a stone, a student must be seen making a kind choice to a friend. Please ask your child about the jar and maybe they can tell you how they’ve earned a stone.

Summer Camp Fun!

Many children are enjoying classes at Berkeley Aquatic, Karate for Life, and Murray Hill Tennis Club. They enjoyed their visit to Turtle Back Zoo, the Planetarium and Bounce Factory. They will go on many fun field trips including Hillview Farms, Liberty Science Center, Imagine That! and Trailside Museum.
