Summer Camp at Sproutlings

The last 2 weeks we have been celebrating the Olympic Games. The children enjoyed trips to Castle Park and Salt Brook school, cooling down in the JAC pool during the open swim sessions and having fun with our table tennis table and new air hockey table.

Next week we look forward to a visit from a T-rex and a baby Raptor as Dinosaurs Arise visit camp.

Peapods

Peapods

So much has happened in the last couple of weeks. We have a Peapod taking a few steps, we have some who are up and rocking, and some are creeping and rolling! We are on the move.
We have a new water mat that we love to pat and watch the little fish move around. Some of us also like to lay on it. We find it very soothing.
Two of our “older“ Peapods have moved on up to Peapods 2. We are going to miss them, but we know they’re going to have such great experiences.
We also want to welcome our two new Peapods. We’re so happy to have them join us!

Peapods II

Hi everyone! Welcome to August! What an adventure it has been already! This month we welcomed 3 new friends! We’ve been loving water play and have learnt most of the moves to Baby Shark! We have also welcomed back Ms. Leandra. This week we will be exploring different sports equipment in leu of the Olympics and will be jumping into hoops and exploring toys in water in our sensory tables. We cannot wait to see what the next two weeks will bring us!

Seedlings

What a thrilling two weeks it has been! The Seedlings had a great time learning about camping and the Olympics.  We hosted our 2024 Seedlings Olympics and were all winners! Ms. Paige had so much fun setting up the course in our classroom during the rainy day with Ms. Hailey cheering on everyone!

The Seedlings had fun making a camp fire by mixing red and yellow paint with sponges.  We also worked on our fine motor skills by gluing construction paper on the Olympic Rings. It was great identifying the colors.

Ms. Bridget’s nephew came to the Seedlings’ room and read some wonderful stories to the kids.  The children really enjoyed having him in our class and loved the books he brought to share with us!

During circle time, we read I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen and sang “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”.

Little Sprouts

Little Sprouts has had so much fun learning about the Olympics and talking about mermaids! Some of our favorite things were taking turns bowling, rolling the beach ball to our friends , playing with play-dough and using cookie cutters to make shapes and animals. We loved doing free art on the white board, and coloring a beautiful mural to hang on our wall. Of course our favorite days of the week are water play days! The children love splashing around in the water tables and splash pad. During circle time we sang our Good Morning Song and talked about the weather.  We loved reading Ready, Set, Go! Sports of All Sports  by Christine Engel and Celeste Cortright and  Five Little Mermaids by Sunny Scribens.

Beanstalks

The Beanstalks have been busy the during the last 2 weeks. Stretch and Grow with Ms. Diane and Ms. Linda is always lots of fun and the children enjoy trying out all the new activities they bring to try.

Waterplay is always a great way to stay cool when the weather is so hot especially in the sprinkler.

We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

We had so much fun learning about the Olympics and pirates these past two weeks! Last week we discussed the Olympics. We made our own Olympic torches using crumpled tissue paper and matched “soccer” numbers. We talked about different Olympic events and the medals you can win. Our favorite books for the week were Wally Racoon’s Farmyard Olympics by Leela Hope and Curious George Plays Soccer by Margret and H.A Rey’s. This week we have been learning about Pirates. We spelled our names in a treasure chest using coins and made our own pirate map to find treasure. Our favorite books from this week were  Shiver Me Letters by June Sobel and Pirates go to School by Corinne Demas. We are looking forward to learning about sharks and dinosaurs in the next two weeks!

PreK 3

Have you been watching the Olympics?  Prek3 started talking about sea animals and the Olympics last week!

The children learned about crabs,  sea stars, and clown fish.  They had fun with a crab number review,  sea star ABC search, and a clown fish sort. Towards the end of the week we started talking about the Olympics.  We found out if any of the children had watched The Games and/or had a favorite sport or event! We colored Olympic pages and created an Olympic craft.  Some of our favorite books were – A House for Hermit Crab, by Eric Carle, Clown Fish, by Kari Sheutz, and Gymnastics, by L. E. Carmichael.

Shiver me timbers!  This week we are leaning about Pirates.  The children made treasure maps, went on an alphabet treasure hunt, reviewed numbers by counting pirate ships, and created their own pirate ship craft!  Some of the books we read were – Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map, by Kimberly and James Dean, Portside Pirates, by Oscar Seaworthy, Shiver Me Letters, by June Sobel, and Are Pirates Polite?, by Connie Demas.

As always, the highlight of the week is water play and Stretch and Grow.  Thanks Coach Linda and Coach Diane!

PreK 4

In Pre K 4 the children have been learning about the all about the Summer Olympics. We talked about some of the more popular sports played and learned about the different medals you can win. We read the books Froggy Plays Soccer  by Jonathan London and  She’s Got This by Laurie Hernandez.

In addition to learning about the Olympics, we learned about Camping. We talked about the many activities you can do on a camping trip, the equipment needed and fun foods to eat. The children enjoyed the stories Llama Llama Loves Camping by Anna Dewdney, Ty’s Travels Camp Out by Kelly Starling Lyons and Scaredy Squirrel  Goes Camping by Melanie Watt.

The children have been working on letter and number recognition, writing and recognizing the letters in their first and last names as well as proper pencil grip. Next week the children can look forward to learning about birds.
