Summer Camp at Sproutlings

At camp this week, it was Superhero week! The children enjoyed a trip to Imagine That!, cooling down in the pool during the open swim sessions, making the most of the beautiful weather with outside play and exercising with Stretch and Grow.

Next week we look forward to celebrating the start of the Olympic Games.

Peapods

Peapods

Our days are going by pretty fast. The Peapods are getting to know each other and have fun while doing so! We have enjoyed watching bubbles float around us and sometimes pop on us. We have been listening to new books and we really enjoy listening to the many fun songs that are sung to us. A couple of us are getting brave and standing without holding on!  We can’t wait to move! One of the books we loved is If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Numeroff and we especially enjoyed “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”.

Peapods II

It’s hard to believe we are just a few short days away from August! Peapods 2 has been enjoying these summer days together. Over the last two weeks we have been enjoying our time during water play and reading new books. One of our favorites right now is Hello, World! Ocean Life by Jill McDonald. We love looking at the different sea creatures featured in the book along with all the bright colors the ocean brings us. Peapods 2 is looking forward to what the rest of July will bring us!

Seedlings

The Seedlings have been enjoying their summer! We’ve been exploring so many things!

We enjoyed digging in watery sand for some seashells. It was nice to feel the water, wet sand, and seashells with our fingers. It was a great sensory activity. We also made piles of sand and loved seeing how high we could make them.

The Seedlings were thrilled to paint sea creatures and a BIG ocean for them to “swim” in. We are so excited to have that on our classroom wall and talk about the different sea creatures and colors.

We have been really enjoying water play. We love splashing the water on the splash pad or even trying to “swim” in it.

During circle time, we have been reading Guess Who Ocean Friends by Jodie Shepherd and singing “5 Little Sea Shells”.

Little Sprouts

Little Sprouts has had so much fun learning about Sharks and Camping! We loved making handprint sharks using paint, and dot markers to make a campfire. Some of our favorite centers were magnetic connectors, kitchen, foam blocks, and working on our colors with color bears.  During circle time we sang our Good Morning song and talked about the weather. We loved reading  Exploring Sharks by Jill McDonald and  Llama Llama Loves Camping by Anne Dewdney.

Beanstalks

What a splash we’ve made in the last two weeks! Last week we talked about the ocean and sea life and made our own ocean scene, complete with handprint fish! This week we dove into Shark Week, and talked about all the things sharks might like to do. We built our own sharks and practiced sorting our shapes!

Saplings

We had another amazing two weeks in Saplings learning about the ocean!

Last week, we discussed the beach and ocean. We had fun making our name out of shell letters and making a jellyfish. Our favorite books from the week were Squish by Breanna Carzoo and A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle. While reading A House for Hermit Crab, we had fun retelling the story and decorating our shell using story cards.

This week, we discussed ocean animals and shells. We discussed animals that live in shells, animals that do and don’t live in the ocean, and even decorated our own shells using paint sticks. Our favorite books about shells and ocean animals were Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson and The Pout Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen. Throughout both weeks, we practiced recognizing numbers to 5 and the letters in our name. We can look forward to learning about the Olympics and Pirates in the next two weeks!

PreK 3

Pre K 3 has been learning about the ocean and the beach. We made jellyfish to float around and decorate the classrooms. The children played a sea animal matching game and sorted sea turtles by size (smallest to largest). As we learned about beaches, we created a sand castle, painted paper seashells and reviewed our numbers. We have been coloring a lot of beautiful pictures. The PreK 3 children have been working on holding their crayons correctly to prepare us for writing.

The children have been enjoying Stretch and Grow and water play.

Some of our favorite books have been: Commotion In The Ocean by Giles Andreae, There Was An Old Mermaid Who Swallowed A Shark by Lucille Colundro, Curious George goes to the Beach by H.A.Rey and Swimmy by Leo Lionni.

PreK 4

The children have been learning about pirates, mermaids, and the ocean! We learned some fun facts about the ocean and the animals that live in it. We also enjoyed thinking of words describing mermaids and why pirates wear eye patches. Our favorite books were Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae and Oona and the Shark by Kelly DiPucchio.

In our journals, we wondered what pirates wear and wrote about our favorite ocean animals. We are so creative with our responses! We have been practicing identifying uppercase letters and counting up to 10. We’ve also been hard at work writing uppercase letters independently. We’re doing great! Be sure to check out our ocean art and pirates and mermaids hanging around our classrooms!

We enjoyed all of our fun activities like water play, swim, and Stretch and Grow. Have a great weekend!
