Peapods

The Peapods have had such an exciting two weeks! We went green for St. Patrick’s Day and had a sensory blast exploring green Jell-O. While some of our friends dove right in, others weren’t quite sure what to make of the squishy texture! Our friends also spent time painting and working on their fine motor skills by stacking rings. welcome the new season, we even painted colorful umbrellas for Spring! We hope you like it! This week’s featured book was “Hooray for St. Patrick day” by Joan Holub and “Spring Is Here” by Violet Findley , which was a huge hit during circle time.

Peapods II

And just like that, the Peapods 2 class is wrapping up on another month! The year has been going fast but we’ve been enjoying every second. The last two weeks were very busy for us! We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by using dot markers to paint a shamrock, we did sensory play with green Jell-O, and we even got to have some tasty treats! Over the last week we welcomed spring by reading a new book titled The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Spring by Eric Carle. In our classroom you can see our new art hanging up! We practiced using a paint brush to create a lily pad. Something very exciting is happening here at Sproutlings! We have baby chicks and they have officially hatched! The Peapods 2 class will have an opportunity to go upstairs to visit our springtime friends. We can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction as they meet these new chicks! We’re looking forward to the remainder of spring, and we can’t wait to see what is in store for us!

Seedlings

The Seedlings have been hard at play and learning, growing a little more every day! We have certainly loved this beautiful weather. We had a great time learning about and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. In our sensory table, we explored gold coins and little black pots to put them in. We had so much fun doing this with our friends, and some of us even practiced counting how many coins we had. We also learned about spring. The Seedlings had a wonderful time making beautiful yarn flowers for the lobby for everyone to see. We loved picking out our own yarn colors and sticking them to the glue—it got a little messy, but that made it even more fun! In our sensory table, we also explored paper grass, eggs, and bunny tongs. We are working on our fine motor skills by using the tongs to pick up the eggs. During circle time, we read You’re My Lucky Charm by Nicola Edwards and sang “I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee.” We absolutely love doing the movements along with the song.

Little Sprouts

The past two weeks have been filled with fun and learning! We explored two exciting themes: St. Patrick’s Day and Spring. Each morning, we started our day with our “Good Morning” song, practiced the days of the week, reviewed our ABCs, and counted together as a class. Storytime was a big hit! We enjoyed reading Itsy Bitsy Leprechaun by Jeff Burton and A Little Book About Spring by Leo Lionni. Our young artists stayed busy creating lots of fun projects. We made four-leaf clovers, painted pots of gold, and created a big caterpillar, carrots, and dot art bunnies. We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Beanstalks

We had so much fun these past two weeks in Beanstalks! We started with St. Patrick’s Day and introduced ponds then this week, moved more into ponds and frogs. For St Patrick’s Day, we started with shamrock crafts! As a class we painted with green to make a class shamrock. Then, each child got to decorate their own smaller shamrock with large sequins to decorate our bulletin board. We did a 1,2,3 Gold coin hop and we had our St. Patrick’s Day party! Our sensory bin was full of green pasta and gold coins and, of course, more shamrocks! For ponds and frogs, we started with color sorting and working on our fine motor skills by tearing blue paper and gluing it down to make a pond. We also had pond themed pictures for our lift the flap board. The sensory bin has been converted into a pond with rubber ducks, frogs, turtles, and fish! We also added sponges and soap. This week, the class books were The Wide-Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner, Good Morning, Pond by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, and Nat Geo Kids: Frogs by Marfé Ferguson Delano. We worked on size matching and color sorting and counting with frogs this week. We talked about the life cycle of a frog – egg, tadpole, tadpole with legs, froglet, and frog! We had so much fun playing with coaches during Stretch and Grow! Over the next weeks, we will move into learning about farms then birds!

Beanstalks II

What a fantastic two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks II. We have been talking all about frogs and ponds. Last week, we had a blast working on our fine motor skills by using our scissors to cut pieces of pond grass to add to our group painting. We really enjoyed reading Good Morning, Pond by Alyssa Satin Capucilli and singing 5 Little Ducks. This week we loved getting to work with watercolors to make fish to add to our class pond! Our favorite book this week was This Way, Ruby by Jonathan Emmett. We were also very excited because the chicken eggs we’ve had in the incubator finally hatched! We thought it was so cool to see their beaks working through the eggs and really enjoyed visiting them. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

Saplings

In Saplings, we’ve had another fun and exciting few weeks! We started by learning all about St. Patrick’s Day, then moved on to exploring Pond Life and frogs. Our friends enjoyed many hands-on activities throughout these themes. During our St. Patrick’s Day fun, we practiced counting with pots of gold coins and shredded tissue paper to decorate our shamrocks. As we began exploring pond life and frogs, things got even more interesting! We learned about different pond animals by sorting and matching their pictures. We also mixed colors to create green paint for our lily pads and sponge-painted a blue pond for the egg carton turtles we made. To build our counting skills, we played a board game where we rolled the dice and counted how many spaces the frog could jump! We also conducted some exciting experiments, discovering which objects float or sink in water and learning how fish breathe underwater. Some of the books we enjoyed reading included Jack and the Leprechaun, Good Morning, Pond, Waddle Waddle Quack Quack Quack, and Do Frogs Drink Hot Chocolate? We are looking forward to continuing our learning and exploration next week!

Pre-K 3

The last two weeks have been fun learning about ponds! The children made masterpieces with their fingers! They finger-painted a pond and glued on lily pads and flowers. The children also sorted dragon flies and put together a turtle! We learned about the animals that live near and in a pond. This week, we focused on the frog. We learned about the frog’s life cycle. We used our fine motor skills to “jump” frogs on lily pads. We needed the correct number too! The children practiced their letters while matching frogs to the right letter pond and we even got to “feed” the frogs. This week we all got to visit the eggs and watch the chicks hatch. Some of our favorite books were: Over and Under the Pond by Ruth Owen, Pond Circle by Betsy Franco, and An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni.

Pre-K 4

Over the past two weeks, PreK 4 has loved learning about weather, rainbows, and ponds. While learning about weather and rainbows, we discussed different kinds of weather, cloud types, and severe weather. This week we are discussing ponds. We have sorted pond animals that live above and below water, learned about ducks, and did a sink or float experiment. This week we also loved watching our eggs hatch! Throughout both weeks we have continued to work on rhyming, letter sounds, syllables, and recognizing lowercase letters. We also finished our handwriting without tears curriculum! Our math activities have included creating our own patterns and recognizing and counting numbers to 20. We are looking forward to learning about frogs next week!
