Peapods
Peapods
The Peapods got an early start celebrating St Patrick’s Day. We had a lot of fun with a special sensory activity. We tasted and tried picking up green jello. Some of us did not want to taste it but most of us did and liked it! We also enjoyed playing with our musical instruments. We loved shaking the maracas to Irish music. It was very loud and lively!
Ms. Lu read to us The Night Before St Patrick’s Day by Natasha Wing and Ms. Laura sang a favorite song that some of us are participating in, “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” We love clapping our hands together during the song.
Peapods II
Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Peapods 2! We have been growing and learning so much over the last two weeks. Last week we participated in Read Across America week. We focused on the book The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry & the Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood. We loved this book and we did a great job using our words and signs by asking to read the book over and over again! With spring approaching, we have been taking advantage of going outside to the playground. We love crawling through the tunnel, playing ‘peek-a-boo’ in the playhouse window, and walking up and down on the bridge. We can’t believe March is half way over, we are long forward to spring and many more warmer days ahead!
Seedlings
We’re so excited that Spring is almost here! We love being able to go outside without our coats in the afternoon. What a treat!
The Seedlings have been so busy. We have had a lot of fun putting our magic gold Leprechaun coins all over the big room and then collecting them. We decorated our leprechaun by gluing on an orange beard and using dot art for his hat and shoes.
We enjoyed using our gross motor skills with our bubble wrap. We loved being able to jump or stomp on the bubbles and hearing the loud noise they make when we pop them.
During circle time, we sang “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and read The Family Book by Todd Parr.
Little Sprouts
Little Sprouts had so much fun learning about weather/rainbows and St. Patrick’s Day! We enjoyed using crayons and markers to color umbrellas, rain boots, pots of gold and a leprechaun. We had fun using our new puzzles, drawing on the whiteboard, playing with play-dough, and sorting keys by color and sizes. During circle time we enjoyed singing our Good Morning song and talking about the weather. We loved reading Little Genius Weather by Joe Rhatigan and How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace. We love talking about the different clouds in the sky and lying on the playground looking at them.
Beanstalks
What an amazing two weeks we’ve had here in Beanstalks! Last week we celebrated Read Across America and encouraged our families to bring in books from home. We absolutely loved getting to read so many new stories and sharing ours with all out friends. This week we’re talking about St. Patrick’s Day. We really enjoyed working on our counting skills with gold coins, and reading about different ways people celebrate. Have a safe and happy weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday!
Beanstalks II
Beanstalks II celebrated Read Across America last week. Every student brought in their favorite books to read with the class. We focused on color sorting and counting. We made our own bookmarks. This week we have celebrated St Patrick’s Day. Some of the fun books we read together included The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day by Natasha Wing and How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace. We have counted colored and decorated shamrocks and we also tried to catch a leprechaun.
PreK 3
Last week we had fun with Read Across America. All of the children were encouraged to bring in their favorite books to share with the class. We ended up with quite a variety! We discussed the difference between authors and illustrators and actually became illustrators when we drew pictures from our favorite books! Writing our names and letters in shaving cream was a big hit. We also enjoyed going on a letter hunt to find where the alphabet was hiding in our rooms. Our rooms were wacky on Wednesday and we even drew UNDER the tables, instead of ON the top! Some of our favorite books included – How to Catch a Mermaid by Adam Wallace, Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses by Kimberley and James Dean, Dragons Love Tacos 2 by Adam Rubin, There’s No Place Like Space by Tish Rabe, What Should Danny Do? by Adir and Ganit Levy, Dandelion Magic by Darren Farrell, and Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss
This week is all about weather, rainbows, and St. Patrick’s Day. We’ve done weather sorting using yellow, blue, and white pompoms to indicate the sun, raindrops, and clouds. We painted and created stormy skies by mixing white and black paint to make the dark sky and added raindrops and lightning. After observing a tornado in a bottle we colored, cut out, and put stickers on our own tornadoes. We’ve also been working on number skills as we count and string rainbow beads, cut and complete patterns, count and add gold coins to the leprechauns pot-o-gold! We continue with our letter, number, shape, and color recognition as we work on our fine motors skills.
PreK 3 wishes everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
PreK 4
Pre K 4 has had a very exciting time celebrating Read Across America! We did a lot of book companion math and literacy activities. Thank you so much to all of our Mystery Readers, the children were thrilled to have you read to us!
This week we learned about the Muslim celebration of Ramadan. The children learned about mosaic art and created their own mosaic moons. Using Ramadan themed clip cards, we worked on syllables, counting and number recognition.
In celebration of St.Patrick’s Day the children, have been enjoying the sensory bin which has been filled with pots of gold, lucky charms and leprechauns! We graphed Lucky Charm shapes and talked about more and less. This weeks journal writing prompt had the children thinking about where a leprechaun might hide. We also worked on letter recognition and beginning letter sounds.
Next week the children can look forward to learning about weather and rainbows!
